wide range of courses is available, depending on trainee needs. Experts
in the field deliver the courses.
Site visits
and workshops play a key role in the majority of the courses. These will be arranged to
demonstrate and emphasise any points raised during a course. They may be
re-scheduled in some cases depending on the operations being carried out by the
contractors etc. at that time.

This is a LANTRA attendance course which is independently instructed and can be
used as an access course to the Chainsaw Carving course. Trainees should have
their own chainsaw and protective clothing kit.

Framing - Module 1
This is the
first in a series of 5 modules of 2days each. This module covers the use of a
side axe, used in hewing raw timber for the production of square beams and
posts from the round. This process is at the heart of traditional timber
framing. Tools and timber are provided to support the trainees. A practical
course for trainees who are fit and familiar with the use of hand tools. The
training takes place in a traditional woodland site. B+B list available on

overview of the potential management choices for those dealing with under-managed
or neglected woodlands.

Improving Woodland Income - Woodland
diversification
A one day
course that analyses woodland characteristics and opportunities for developing,
maintaining and improving income from wood, woodland, produce, woodland services
and leisure activities. A number of case studies will be used to demonstrate how
farmers and foresters are meeting the challenge of diversification.
Development issues and support will be discussed. Participants should
leave with a plan for developing their potential or actual woodland resources.
